Summary of Duties:

The Modernization Initiative is seeking self-motivated and dynamic Financial Management Systems Business Analysts to join their growing team in permanent positions that will specialize in ongoing improvements to continue to help Washington State University modernize and stabilize systems related to all business aspects. The successful incumbent(s) will have the opportunity to become Workday software experts, engage in the Workday community, work side-by-side with professional consultants, learn best practices in higher education, and serve as a critical member(s) of an enthusiastic, committed, and collaborative team tasked with a variety of diverse projects to support the financial business operations of Washington State University.

The Financial Management Systems Business Analyst will partner closely with broader Finance, HR, and departmental end-users in a cross-functional and collaborative work environment to analyze, develop, and implement new financial business processes in Workday enterprise software for finance, payroll, and human resources.

Responsibilities include developing a wide range of expertise in WSU finance and business processes with a focus in one of the following financial workstreams: Travel, Projects, Treasury Management, Sponsored Projects, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Finance, Budget, or Payroll.

The incumbent will work with university stakeholder groups as a lead or participant in workgroups, routinely engage with end users on a variety of topics, and prepare personnel for new systems and updates.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management Information Systems, or related field AND two (2) years of professional experience in procedural, management, or business analysis work; OR a combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years from which comparable knowledge and ability are acquired. A Master’s Degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.

  • A record showing commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of business processes specifically related to finance, payroll, and/or benefits.

  • Experience leading or participating in business systems projects.

  • Experience in any of the following areas: payroll processing, employee benefits administration, tax, human resources, accounting operations, or financial system support.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully prepare and present policy interpretations, findings, and conclusions.

  • Payroll and/or benefits experience in a higher education setting.

  • Experience with Workday Finance, Workday Strategic Sourcing, or other similar ERP system.

$5,500.00 - $5,800.00 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Dr. Lisa Guerrerowas recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning.
