Long have the wild rumours of a romance between Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles reigned.

Now, nearly a decade after One Direction went on their '18-month' hiatus, Louis has admitted that he's given up denying 'Larry Stylinson' conspiracies.

As two fifths of the popular boyband, the pair naturally forged a close bond, but rumours of their 'love' drove a wedge between them.

In an interview with Brazilian publication G1, Louis admitted he 'realised a few years ago' that 'there's nothing' he can say or do to put the outrageous rumours to bed.

'They are so connected to what they believe that they will not see the truth for what it really is,' the singer said.

'I’m sure many people look and find all these little conspiracies that happen in life interesting, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t irritate me a little, but it’s the nature of the job.'

Louis, who is father to his eight-year-old son Freddie, explained that 'Larry Stylinson', the rumoured romance's ship name, has a significant, somewhat damaging, impact on his personal life.

'There are times when it gets very personal,' Louis told the publication. 'I have my son, Freddie. He is the most important person in my life. And occasionally, [these theories] end up addressing things that are a little unfair.

'This is what we have now. There’s nothing I can do about it. Nothing I can say to stop people from inventing what they want to invent. So, so be it.'

In a 2017 interview with Grazia, Louis admitted the rumours caused a rift between himself and Harry, explaining: 'It created this atmosphere between the two of us where everyone was looking into everything we did. It took away the vibe you get off anyone.'

'It made everything, I think on both fences, a little bit more unapproachable. I think it shows that it was never anything real if I can use that word.'

One Direction burst into the music scene back in 2010, which means some fans have been relentlessly shipping Larry Stylinson for 14 years. Old habits die hard, eh?
