Second place went to Chris
Ogden in the 110 hurdles and the
300 hurdles; Grado in the 100

Seventh boys track team wins
district, eighth places second
The Seminole junior high
boys track teams dominated their
district meet in Denver City
Friday, as the seventh grade boys
won their division and the eighth
graders were second.
The eighth grade boys
amassed 120 points in their
second place finish and posted
some new school and district
marks.
First place honors went to the
400 relay team of Mark Zelner,
Toby Shain, Nick Flores and
Tanner Helton in 48.64; Junior
Iglesias in a new school and
district record time of 8:39.39 in
the 2,400 meters; and Tanner
Helton with a district record time
in the long jump of 18 ft., one-
quarter inch and in the 100
meters in 12.20. —-
Second place went to Butch
Day in the 800; Zelner in both the
110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles; DAYTIM E
and Helton with a school record
in the triple jump.
Third went to Shain in the 100
and 200 meters and Iglesias in
the 1600; fourth place was earned
by Willie Martinez in the 2400
meters; and the 1600 relay team
of Joe Brooks, Josh Howard,
Martinez and Day; and fifth went
to Helton in the 200 meters and
Zelner in the discus.
In winning the seventh grade
boys division, the locals posted
212 points and set several
records.
First places went to Chris
Elliot in the 2400 meters in a new
school and district record time of
9:01.88 and the 1600 meters in
5:41.59; the 400 relay team of
Jeremy Meeks, Kaleb Clay,
Curtis Adam and Jeremy Grado
in a district record time of 50.27;
Meeks in the 400 meters in a
school and district record time of
58.77; the 1600 relay team of
Meeks, Chris Browning, Clay
and Grado in a new school and
district record time of 4:01.33;
Grado with new school and
district records in the long jump
with 17 ft., 10 and three-quarter
inches and the triple jump with
35 ft, 1 and one-half inch; Bobby
Dale in the 800 meters in
2:29.63, in the 300 hurdles in
49.19 and the pole vault in 8 ft.;
7th girls first,
8th second in
district meet
Both Seminole junior high girls
track teams fared well in their
district meet Friday in Roosevelt
The seventh grade won their
division, while the eighth grade was
second.
Individually in the eighth grade
meet, first places were earned by
Beajae McMahan, who set a school
record in the 100 meter dash of
12.75 and who also won the 200
meter dash in 28:18. Misty Day in
the 800meters in 2:49.58, and Trish
Ratliff in the long jump.
Second went to Carrie Suggs in
the 100 meter hurdles, Erika
Trevino in the 1600meters, Crystal
Darby in the shot put and the 1600
meter relay team of Day, Helen
Ontiveros, J J. Flores and Ratliff.
Third places went to Megan
Mcllwain in the 300 hurdles,
Courtney Hicks in the 1600 meters
and Suggs in the high jump, fourth
Hill earns
first place
at Kermit
The Seminole Maiden track team
participated in the Yellowjacket
Relays in Kermit Saturday.
Firstplace honors wentto Angie
Hill in the long jump with a leap of
16 ft., 7 in.
Third place went to the sprint
relay team of Jamie Boyer, Amy
White, Annie Klassen and Hill and
to Katie Banta in the 100 meter
hurdles.
Earning fourth were Lucy
Espinoza in the mile and Teri
French in the shot put. Jessica
Villalva was fifth in the shot.
Indians win district opener
The Seminole Indian baseball
team won its opening game in
District 3-3A play Friday with a 7-
2 win over Slaton in Slaton.
Coach Mike Browning praised
his team, saying, "They played very
well."
Seminole scored twice in the first
inning, three times in the third and
twice in the seventh to give Jeff
Schenck the win.
Schenck not only allowed just
seven hits, struck out nine and
allowed no earned runs, but also
helped his own cause with a home
run in the third inning.
Jason Alvarado scored three
times and had one hit, a triple, while
Cameron Rose scored once and had
three hits and two runs batted in.
In addition to Alvarado’s three
runs, Schenck’s one and Rose’s one,
Michael Franco and Joe Villalva
each tallied once.
JV splits with Tigers, Cubs
The Seminole junior varsity
baseball teams split two games
Saturday and Monday.
Saturday, the JV defeated
Slaton, 6-3.
Gabe Guerra was the winning
pitcher in relief of Cory Jackson.
Guerra also helped his own cause
by driving in three runs and
scoring once.
Thomas Vizcayno had two hits
and one run batted in, while Cody
Dunn, Joey Cortez, Darron
Kruger and Steven Wright each
had a run batted in.
Monday, Brownfield beat the
locals, 7-6, in a game that went
eight innings.
Ty Gage and Guerra each had
three hits and scored twice each,
while Dunn had two hits and
scored once, Jackson had a hit,
scored once and had one run
batted in and Cory Hill had an
rbi.
