Valentine’s Day is next Friday and we’re spending it together as a family. There won’t be any romantic dinners for two here but I actually prefer spending it with my little ones anyway. I find it much more fun to spend the day creating themed crafts, food and beverages. One of my personal favourite non-alcoholic beverages is the Shirley Temple and the kids love it too for something festive.
I love the layers of the Shirley Temple both visually and in flavour. As a child, what I looked forward to most whenever my parents would treat us out to a restaurant was knowing the first drink I would order would be the Shirley Temple. I always saved the cherry until last; I don’t know how many times I used my straw to dig out that cherry from the bottom of the glass, usually hiding under the remaining ice cubes. It was part of the fun. Now that I have kids of my own, I see them get just as excited about this drink as I once did. I suppose it’s a bit of nostalgia but adding more memories to that makes my heart flutter and since it’s Valentine’s week, I think the Shirley Temple is the perfect drink for the big day.
Enjoy!

Don’t feel you’re alone: I’ve never heard of Shirley Temple Drink. Our most fancy “co*cktail” was milkshakes growing up. That’s as sophisticated as a drink got for me…LOL.
