"Twelve months ago, the pain and shock of the counterrevolutionary war erupting in Sudan was stubbornly at the front of my mind, at all times. I could not bear the mundanity of every day life. I found myself bursting into tears at any moment; on the tube, scrolling instagram, walking across London Bridge. I would bow my head and let the hot streams glide down my face, unable, unwilling to wipe them away. They were proof of the struggle, public evidence of internal turmoil I had no interest in quelling, if I even knew how.Twelve months later, the sharp edge of the anguish has dulled, but the crisis has only become more urgent. I feel useless, my efforts splintered into seemingly ineffective measures: public education, media interviews, signposting to fundraisers, articles. It doesn’t feel enough. It is what I can do, and it isn’t enough."https://lnkd.in/ekrPSQKD

I've been an internet content creator for ✨ time ✨. Blogging since the late 2000s, early 2010s, feeling the joy - and the wrath - of going viral at 19, 24, 25... Many young people online - and the talent managers who work with them - are afraid of the febrile landscape on social media. They're worried about making mistakes, and uncertain how to be their full selves without causing offense. Yes, while the landscape *is* different, I do believe the same principals that apply to good leadership apply to a sustainable, online content creator. What do you think those principles are? I've got some ideas, but I'd love to hear what you think...#socialmedia

'It is a similar dynamic across ‘social’ media platforms, embedding competition and expansion into spaces which should not (in my view) be prioritising these metrics. Even if you don’t begin on these platforms wanting to grow, the very design of the user interface, including the live feeds, the badges, the 'number of subscribers’ featured on a front page, means that you will end up thinking about whether or not you should be focused on expansion, wanting more.'On Resisting Comparison... https://lnkd.in/e2DhtvPt

As a relatively new member to the Edinburgh International Book Festival board, the question of funding has been at the heart of so many discussions. Glad to see Jenny out on the front foot, talking about what the festival has been doing to remain sustainable, and true to its principles, ensuring a place for robust, rigorous debate in an increasingly hostile cultural landscape.

It's the soft launch of the Spotify Party Code!!!Being part of means I get to consult on some incredibly meaningful and impactful projects. Most recently, I got to work alongside the dynamic, thoughtful powerhouse Maria Paz (Mia) Cambronero and the Spotify Social Impact team in the creation of 'The Party Code' - a code of conduct, or a philosophy really, on how to plan, produce and execute safe and fun live events.Check it out! https://lnkd.in/ejQVVZTz
