Court Jury was given 28 options today in deciding the fate of a man charged with killing a bartender and wounding two patrons at an Evansville bar in December Robert "Whiskey Bob" Wilson 55 could be found guilty of murder voluntary manslaughter or reckless homicide in the Dec 12 shooting death of bartender Jeffrey A Brown Wilson also is charged with attempted murder in the wounding of bar patrons Robert Fischer and Edward Jones However the jury could elect to find him not guilty on those charges or convict him of less serious offenses Defense attorneys Terry Noffsinger and Catherine Behrens have asked in Brown's death that Wilson be convicted of the least serious option reckless homicide They contend that would be appropriate because Wilson was so drunk at the time of the shooting that he didn't know what he was doing But deputy prosecutor Douglas Knight told jurors during his closing argument today that Wilson's activity at the time of the shootings should convince them that intoxication is not a viable defense He said even though Wilson was drunk be was able to shoot three people with a 38-caliber pistol from a distance of several feet Knight also argued that it is apparent that Wilson knew what he was doing when he walked into the bar pointed a gun at Brown and sail going to blow your head off" The difference in a murder or reckless homicide conviction for Wilson would be his sentence He could receive up to 60 years in prison for a murder conviction The maximum sentence for reckless homicide is eight years The jury also has possible verdicts to consider in the shooting of the other two men They range from not guilty to attempted murder which carries a ma ximum 50-year sentence Defense attorneys contend that Wilson should be found guilty of criminal recklessness in Jones' shooting But they maintain that Wilson in Innocent of shooting Fischer They say his wound came from a gun of a different caliber than Wilson's gun Candidate for auditor says
