Homemade garlic dipping sauce is fresh, herby, creamy and oh, so garlicky. Creamy garlic sauce is the perfect dip for fresh veggies, pretzels, pizza, nuggets, potato chips and more. Kids love this garlic dip and so will you.
I'll be the first to admit that I am a sucker for dip. Since it's more readily accepted than eating spoonfuls of dip, I'll eat veggies just so I have an excuse to enjoy globs of dip.
I love this homemade garlic dipping sauce because it's so creamy and fresh. Plain yogurt and lemon juice give the dip a bit of tang that's mellowed by the mayonnaise. Everything is tied together by the earthy, aromatic and slightly spicy flavor of garlic. The best part is that simple ingredients provide lots of flavor to this versatile condiment.
The result is a deliciously dippable garlic sauce recipe that pairs well with chicken, fish, veggies, your favorite pizza, pretzels, pita bread and chips. You can also use it as a salad dressing or sandwich spread. This creamy sauce is a garlic lovers dream.

Ingredients
- Yogurt – Be sure to use plain, unsweetened yogurt like Greek yogurt. You can also use sour cream in this easy recipe.
- Mayonnaise – Use your favorite mayonnaise and substitute low-fat mayo if preferred.
- Garlic – Finely mince fresh garlic with a garlic press or grate with a microplane. We don't recommend using garlic powder.
- Lemon – Use the juice of half of a fresh lemon.
- Parsley – Fresh chopped parsley adds a fresh flavor to this dip.
- Olive Oil – Use a light, neutral-flavored olive oil, not your fancy EVOO.
- Salt and Pepper – Season to taste with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Use white pepper if you prefer not to see the flecks of pepper.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- In a food processor, add the mayonnaise, yogurt, parsley, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.
- Process until well combined. Serve with vegetables, meats, sandwiches, salad, etc.
Hint: Refrigerate the creamy garlic sauce for at least an hour to allow the flavors to come together.
Variations/ Substitutions
- Garlic Herb Dip – Add in your favorite fresh herbs to this garlic dip recipe such as mint, basil, thyme, fresh chives and rosemary.
- Spicy – Stir in a bit of crushed red pepper flakes to give this dip a little heat.
- Roasted Garlic – Use roasted garlic in place of the raw garlic for a nutty, warm garlic flavor.
Equipment
A food processor is a great tool for mixing this dip very quickly and getting a creamy texture. It will finely chop the parsley and the garlic so no one gets a sharp bite of garlic in their dip.
You can also mix this dip by hand using a whisk or spoon. If mixing by hand you will need to finely mince the garlic or grate it using a microplane.
Storage
Store the leftover dip in a sealed jar or airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Stir well before serving.
Freezing garlic dipping sauce is not recommended.
Top tips
- A food processor will finely mince the garlic cloves. If you plan to make the dip by hand you will want to grate the garlic with a microplane.
- Make the dip at least one hour in advance to let the flavor develop.
- Use fresh garlic and fresh lemon juice for the best flavor.
- Adjust the amount of garlic to your personal preference.
- Use white pepper instead of black pepper.
- Store leftovers in a mason jar or a small bowl with a lid for up to a week.
- Stir or shake before serving.
Serving Suggestions
This garlic sauce is perfect for dipping, dunking, smearing, and coating. Dunk your favorite veggies, Air Fryer French Fries, Crispy Zucchini Chips or pan-fried chicken tenders. Toss it in a fresh green salad or spread it on a sandwich like my Chicken Shawarma Sandwich.
