So... yeah.

I was starting to get the feeling it just wouldn't go anywhere. Tempest made comments about my appearance and how she liked spending time with me, but nothing really made me think she liked me the way I liked her. Tempest doesn't understand normal social conduct, unfortunately, so I'm pretty sure that when she's trying to be nice to me, it's just as a friend. It's unfortunate, really. She doesn't flirt back or anything, but she willlay in my bed for six hours playing Game Boy, so that's something?

I considered talking to Silena about it, but then I figured that wouldn't go well. I had to face it; my crush on Tempest was one-sided. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. She's really weird anytime someone suggests she likes girls, and hates all men, so I figured she was ace or something. Go figure.

It also didn't help that I don't really have... crushes. I've had one crush, but I don't even think that was a crush. It was just blind infatuation. Tempest is the first person I've ever had a crushon. Just being around her gives me butterflies and I keep finding myself thinking about her in situations that would never happen. I don't exactly know what to do about it. To make it worse, I don't imagine I can talk to Silena (who has only dated/liked boys) about having a crush on girls. I think it's different to like a girl.

I tried to make myself stop liking her, but it wasn't going anywhere. But I couldn't stop staring at her. The way she walked my brothers to school in the morning made me feel warm inside. The way she sat through my dad's entire presentation and helped him revise it to make it better made me realize how great she really was. She helped Leah get a garden started so we could have our own produce, and I felt a little buzz in my head. But most of all, it was when she sat in my bedroom with me as I rambled about stuff she would never care about, that made me like her the most.

I imagined what Tempest was like when I first met her. Cold, arrogant, and mean at times. I could still see some of that in her- not in a negative way, but just in her personality- but it struck me how much she changed. When we first met, she didn't care whether or not my camp fell to ruins. Now, she was researching like a madwoman to help me understand the Labyrinth so we could defend the camp. She was going far and wide for information, visiting all kinds of libraries and discovering obscure information, all for a camp she didn't even care about less than a year ago.

And it wasn't just that. She was nicer, too. I felt like she had more emotions. She was always so bored in the beginning, only finding enjoyment when she made people want to fight. But late one night, I couldn't find her until I went to the kitchen. Bobby was on her shoulders, yanking her hair to control her as she wore a blindfold, and Matthew was pretending to be a chef barking orders.

"We're playing Ratatouille!" She told me, smiling so wide I thought her cheeks might split open.

Bobby yanked her hair and Matthew yelled, "MORE O' ZE MARINARA!" Both boys giggled hilariously as Tempest dumped a whole jar of marinara sauce into a pot.

When she walked, she didn't seem to give everyone a menacing look to ward them away. That's not to stay she smiled or anything. She totally had RBF from hell. But when people talked to her, she was polite. She didn't try to fight everyone she met. She laughed more, and unveiling that might've been the best part. It was a light laugh, and she always covered her mouth when she did it like she didn't want me to see her smile, despite that being the best part. Her eyes didn't seem so much like blood and death anymore. Instead, I saw roses and love.
