ems. Ralph S. Duke of St. Louis was elected secretary or the association at the Cleveland meeting. Gerholz said: "The public housing program, except for a portion provided to serve war housing has proved to be a costly and largely unsatisfactory experiment by government." Private home builders, he added, are determined to provide adequate housing for "every American family, regardless of income." Referring to the recent confer-once, Gerholz said: "The builders from every part of the country who attended pledged themselves to completion of the war housing task.

However, our eyes are on the future and the national association is gathering information which will enable the industry to pass on to the home owner of the future the benefits of the experience gained in producing war housing on a mass basis." For Low-Cost He Indicated that the home builders are concentrating on ways of producing homes at substantially lower costs than have ever before been on the market. These include the use of standardized plans, site fabrication of structural components, assembly line construction methods, and use of newly developed materials. Frank W. Cortright, executive vice-president of the association reported that its members are working together to meet the full housing needs of America after the war. He said the new Educational and Research Institute, which the association is establishing as a part of its Washington organization, will co-operate with dealers and manu-tacturers of building materials and equipment In matters of design, distribution, construction and consumer acceptance.

hom*o Show Planned. Cortright, in addressing the United States Savings Loan League in Chicago, announced: "Our association is committed to sponsor the first great National Victory Home Show six months after the war ends. We propose to bring together displays of all new equipment and materials. Here the home builders, all branches of the industry and the public will have an opportunity of learning what the war years have produced in improved design, materials and methods." Gerholz. a native of Merrill, was graduated from the University of Wisconsin and Is a veteran of World War I.

In 1922 he founded the Gerholz-Healy Co. of Flint, pioneer builders of low and moderate priced dwellings. Other officers elected at the Cleveland conference were: Joseph E. Merrion, Chicago, first vlce- E. W.
